President Mamnoon Hussain has said that we can achieve progress by adopting the thoughts and philosophy of our great leaders and can earn a distinguished status in the comity of nations as dreamt by our founding fathers. The President emphasized that it is the need of the hour that we strive to achieve the vision of our leaders through unity and hardwork to make a mark at the international level.

The President said this while addressing a function held to pay tributes to the services of the eminent leader of Pakistan Movement Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Friday on the eve of his death anniversary.

The President said that we could not derive full advantage of our strategic geographical location in the past but now the government is endeavoring to take Pakistan to newer heights of prosperity through China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and development of Gwadar port. The President stated that Pakistan came into being because of sefless struggle waged by Sardar Abdur Rab and others under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam. The President urged that we need to emulate the principles and self-belief of our founding fathers to make Pakistan strong and prosperous country.

The President said that Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar was blessed with many qualities which were instrumental in enabling to overcome many challenges after the creation of Pakistan through his sagacity and acumen and his conduct was exemplary during these testing times.

President Mamnoon Hussain said that services of Sardar Abdur Rab as companion of Quaid-e-Azam and as Governor Punjab and key federal minister cannot be forgotten and he performed his responsibilities by upholding his ideology and ethics.

The President said that Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar was the only ray of hope during political instability in the country in the 50s and 60s and enjoyed the trust of Mader-e-Millat Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah who entrusted him with the leadership of the party. The President stated that Sardar Abdur Rab being farsighted had then suggested establishing Commonwealth of Islamic countries to pool the resources of the Muslim world.

President Mamnoon said that Sardar Abdur Rab never took advantage of his official position and led a dignified and simple life as Governor Punjab. “He never utilized official resources for his sake or for his children as he believed in judicious and meaningful use of national resources”, remarked the President.

The President stated that after assuming the office of the President of Pakistan he had decided that ceremonies would be organized at the Aiwan-e-Sadr to nourish the ideology of Pakistan and strengthen national identity adding that today’s ceremony is part of this process to pay homage to national heroes which would continue in future as well.

The President further said that there is a need to formulate educational curriculum of Pakistan according to the requirements of the modern age and ideology of Pakistan adding that work in this regard is underway and soon new curriculum with consensus of all stakeholders would be implemented. The President stated that Valentine day has no connection with our culture and called for avoiding it. The President advised the students to attain higher education in their respective fields and go abroad if there is need of it but always maintain their religious and national identity.
