President Mamnoon Hussain has said that Pakistani nation with its unflinching resolve has demonstrated to the world that they along with the Armed Forces are capable of meeting internal and external challenges and warned the terrorists and their patrons that the nation and the Armed Forces of the country would not rest till elimination of the last terrorist.

The President said this while addressing the 2nd Convocation of Bachelor of Military Art and Science at National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad on Wednesday. On the occasion, degrees and medals were awarded to the successful cadets of 126 and 127 Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Long Courses. Principal NUST Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (NIPCONS) Dr Shahid Ali Hashmat and Rector NUST Lt. Gen. ® Muhammad Asghar also addressed the ceremony.

The President expressed satisfaction at the successes achieved in overcoming the menace of terrorism and called for analyzing the reasons due to which the country became a victim of extremism and terrorism in order to avoid such situation in the future.

The President said that in the present age defence studies has attained a complex form and now political, diplomatic, economic and even communications sectors have become interlinked with the defense affairs. He said that the menace of extremism and terrorism in the last few decades has aggravated the problems and in this backdrop it is imperative that officers of the Armed Forces should be imparted training on modern lines so that they are able to meet the challenges in the constantly changing scenario.

Stressing upon the importance of Military Art and Science course, the President called for further raising the standard of this course to meet the modern day requirements.

The President said that in the past resources were squandered that led to the economic downturn in the country as no energy projects were undertaken to eliminate load shedding and the country suffered a lot due to corruption. “The only way to come out of this situation is to eradicate corruption from the country for which the new generation can play an important role”, remarked the President. The President noted with satisfaction that corruption in Pakistan has decreased according to the latest Transparency International Report and stressed that this positive trend should continue. The president said that the Economic Corridor project is a national project and is essential for development of the country and urged that the people should support the government in its completion. The President assured that there has been no change in the Economic Corridor route and dispelled all misperceptions in this regard.
