A team of senior officers of the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) headed by its Rector, Dr. S.M. Junaid Zaidi made a presentation before Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Science & Technology & Defence production. The Federal Minister appreciated the growth, expansion and performance of the CIIT. The Federal Minister assured his full support and that of the Ministry of Science and Technology on several issues pointed out by the Rector, CIIT. Such issues included processing of the CIIT charter, allocation of land at Lahore and Islamabad, increase in the research grant by M/o Science and Technology, and support requested for opening new campuses at Quetta and Karachi. The Federal Minister directed the officers at CIIT and M/o Science and Technology to take up pending issues and he assured to extend possible support.

Earlier, the Rector, CIIT apprised the worthy participants of the meeting that CIIT is a public sector higher education institution working under the control of M/o Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan. It offers 97 degree programs under five faculties. The current enrollment is over 40,000 at its eight campuses located one each at Islamabad, Abbottabad, Lahore, Wah, Attock, Sahiwal, Vehari and the Virtual Campus. All of its campuses are ISO 9001:2008 certified. The alumni number is 41,000 including 120 PhDs. Almost all of its alumni is either gainfully employed or pursuing higher studies, within the country or abroad. The CIIT differentiates itself from the traditional universities by focusing on research, innovation and technological development through its ten (10) research centers, 4,400 research papers with crossing the 1,000 ISI indexed publications in a calendar year by any university for the first time in the history of Pakistan. It has an ensemble of over 1200 PhD among its faculty corps. The Institution enjoys number one position in research among the universities in Pakistan and ranked number four among all universities/Higher Education Institutions in Pakistan as ranked by the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan. Mr. Fazal Abbas Maken, Federal Secretary and other senior officers of the Ministry of Science & Technology were also present at the occasion.
