Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Dr Fehmida Mirza met president services sports control board (SSCB) Rear Admiral, Abdul Basit Butt HI (M) and Secretary Squash federation Tahir Sultan to discuss National Sports Policy in separate meetings today in Islamabad. The meetings were also attended by Secretary IPC and DG PSB. In the meetings the salient features of national sports policy were discussed. The Federal Minister said the role of federal and provincial governments, Pakistan sports board and federations is highly important in successful national sports policy. The federal minister said coordination and regulation is the role of the federal government. As a regulatory body we are answerable in the parliament on the performance of national teams. The Federal Minister said provinces should include sports in their curriculum. Participation in sports should be encouraged from an early age. Provincial government should make laws to make it mandatory for all schools and educational institutions to have sports facilities. Sports activities should also be provided inside the juvenile jails and it should be mandatory for any new infrastructure/ housing project to have sports facilities in it Federal minister said for a uniformed national sports policy the federal government is in consultation with all provinces. In the policy tehsil level sports infrastructure is on priority. It should be made mandatory for all schools and educational institutions to have sports facilities. The federal minister said we want to go for regional sports. As per the vision of the Prime Minister there should be Provincial sports teams, built up from grassroots level. Federal minister said the government has already suggested that Sports funds should be developed by each province by contributing a minimum 1% from provincial services sales tax to support athletes from their respective provinces. During meetings it was discussed that every federation must be registered under society act and must be active on club level. The ministry has asked for an annual activity calendar from all federations on the bases of which funds could be allocated. The Federal Minister said that the Government is ready to play its role to resolve all issues of federation as an impartial mediator.
