Today, Mr. Shehbaz Gill, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communication alongwith Ms. Syeda Shafaq Hashmi, DG, ICT/ Administrator MCI inaugrated Ehsaas Model Cart Program established in G-11 Markaz. The DG briefed that the model project has been started in collaboration of Ehsaas, CDA, PIDE, ICT and MCI. Model carts have been handed over to 25 existing vendors who have been working in G-11 Markaz.The purpose of the project is to regulate the street economy and to support vendors in earning a respectable livelihood. The pilot project and will be replicated in other sectors of Islamabad as well. It will also serve as a model for the rest of the country. The project is an outcome of the vision of the government to support the poor and special efforts of SAPM on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection Dr. Sania Nishtar, Chairman CDA Mr. Amer Ali Ahmed, Mr. Zia Banday from PIDE and Administrator MCI, Syeda Shafaq Hashmi. On the occasion, the street vendors appreciated government’s initiative of recognizing their status as a legitimate economic player and helping them in enhancing their livelihood earning capacity through training, provision of improved carts and vending licenses. It is a first public project of its kind in Pakistan where street vendors are being facilitated to earn respectable livelihood and contribute to national development.
