On the occasion of Pakistan National Day, the Embassy of Pakistan, Addis Ababa hosted a reception on Tuesday, 23`4 March, 2021 at Hilton Hotel, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This was the first ever reception in Ethiopia since the reopening of the Mission in 2008. The Ethiopian government nominated Ms. Etsegenet Mengistu, Deputy Speaker, House of Federation of Ethiopia as the Chief Guest for the event, says a press release received here today from Ethiopia. Pakistan National Day Reception was attended by Ethiopian dignitaries including leading politicians, government officials, corporate executives, prominent personalities from Ethiopian civil society, the media and members of Pakistani community. Ambassador Shozab Abbas greeted the guests and highlighted the heroic struggle of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah for the creation of Pakistan. He also explained the rationale of Lahore Resolution — 1940 and subsequent efforts of Indian Muslims to unyoke the shackles of subjugation and oppression. The Ambassador also emphasized the democratic ideals and values espoused in the Lahore Resolution of 1940 guided the Muslims of the Sub-Continent to achieve ultimate independence in 1947. The Ambassador added that in last 73 years, Pakistan has achieved unprecedented successes in political, economic, defence and development realms. On Pakistan-Ethiopia relations, he said that his government wishes to build closer partnership with Ethiopia in all domains of life to ensure peace and prosperity and brotherhood among the people of two countries. More than 100 guests from all walks of life including Ethiopian government, Pakistani Diaspora and Diplomatic Corps attended the reception.
