JAPANESE GRANT AID FOR THE “PROJECT FOR HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIP (JDS) FOR FISCAL YEAR 2020
ISLAMABAD: AUGUST 6, 2020

Government of Japan has extended grant assistance worth Japanese Yen 318 million to the Government of Pakistan for “The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship for fiscal year 2020” The Exchange of Notes and Record of Discussions for the grant were signed by Mr. Noor Ahmed, Secretary, EAD and H.E. Mr. MATSUDA Kuninori, Ambassador of Japan, A grant agreement on the details of implementation of the project for fiscal year 2020 was also signed by Mr. Shigeki Furuta, Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Mr. Rahman Shah, Deputy Secretary, EAD. All developing countries are confronted with the challenge of designing coherent policies that can simultaneously improve service delivery, accelerate economic growth, reduce poverty and inequality and meet environmental challenges. To achieve these objectives successfully, countries need human resource with strong analytical capacities to assess policy options and sound institutional arrangement for policy formulation and its effective implementation. This project will strengthen the government’s administrative capacities by providing scholarship opportunities to obtain master’s and doctoral degrees to the young capable government officials who are expected to play leadership roles in contributing to the socio-economic development of the country. It will also build a human network, and eventually strengthen the bilateral relationship/partnership between both the countries of Japan and Pakistan. Through this scholarship, Government of Japan will provide 18 scholarships for 2 years master's program and 2 scholarships for 3 years doctoral program to officers of the federal government of Pakistan at top Japanese universities. The Secretary, M/oEA appreciated the Government and people of Japan for their support with the assurance of extending all necessary facilitation for more meaningful cooperation between the two sides in future.
