INSTITUTIONAL ARRANGEMENT FOR INNOVATION IN TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL SKILLS IS OUR TARGET. USMAN DAR

Muhammad Usman Dar, Special Assistant to PM (SAPM) on Youth Affairs has said that technical and vocational training has to be modernized in line with the changing requirements of job market. He added that majority of youth are seeking training courses in high end skills and technical institutes in the country need to enhance their capacities to meet the growing demands. He said this while meeting a delegation led by Lieutenant General (Retd) Khalid Asghar, Rector National University of Technology (NUTECH) including Technical & Vocational Education experts from Finland who called on him at PM office today. Mr. Dar informed the meeting that under PM Kamyab Jawan Programme, “Skills for All” is aimed at imparting various skills to youth in traditional as well as modern fields. “All components of Jawan Programme including Skills for All, National Internship Programme and Youth Entrepreneurship are aimed at creating employments in the country”, said Mr. Dar. He emphasized that the government will ensure adequate investments in youth who would surely prove to be a game changer for the country. Lieutenant General (Retd) Khalid Asghar stressed the need for enhancing capacity of technical and vocational institutes; especially in view of the government’s focus on this area. Mr. Wille Eerola, Chairman Finland-Pakistan Business Council (FPBC) said that his country is ready to extend all possible support and assistance in regard to improving standards of technical and vocational education in Pakistan. He further said that by adopting best practices and by ensuring provision of relevant skills to youth; employability ratio could be hundred per cent. Mr. Dar underlined the need for establishing a centre of excellence in Pakistan with the cooperation of Finland. It was agreed to initiate preliminary working on this proposal. Mr. Hannu Immonen, Head TAI, Mr. Timo Haukioja, Education Division Turku and Mr. Petri Hörkkö, Team Leader Hospitality, TAI were included in the delegation. Air Commodore (Retd) Nadeem Khalid, Air Commodore (Retd) Naveed Yusuf and senior officials of the PM Office were present during the meeting. ¬¬¬
