Islamabad: February 11, 2020

The long awaited 87th meeting of the executive committee of Pakistan Sports Board was held today in Islamabad at the Ministry of IPC. Federal Minister of IPC, Dr. Fehmida Mirza chaired the meeting. Secretary IPC, DG PSB, and DS sports were also present in the meeting. Different agenda items became part of the discussion including employee related issues, financial matters, budget, upgradation of sports complex, awarding of cash prize to the medal winners of SAF games and also the projects proposed to be included in PSDP 2020-2021. Federal minister emphasized that the employees play a pivotal role towards efficient functioning of any institution or system. Regarding the concerns of the employees that were discussed in the meeting, she stressed that their grievances should be addressed as soon as possible. Matters pertaining to the existing discrepancies in the medical allowances of grade 17 and above employees of PBS, were also brought to the fore. Unanimously, it was decided by the members of executive committee that all those employees of grade 17 and above who have crossed their medical allowance ceiling, would have to refund the extra amount. Therefore, in order to monitor this whole process, it was agreed to the constitute a committee under the supervision of Secretary IPC. Another important issue that was highlighted in the meeting, pertains to wrestler Din Muhammad. He is the first Pakistani Gold Medalist of 1954 Asian Games, held in Manila. Recognizing the services of this living legend in the field of sports, Federal Minister directed to grant 5 lakhs in cash to the ailing player. She also underscored the need to put up a summary to the PM for seeking more help for the wrestler. Dr Fehmida expressed her satisfaction over the fact that PSB has attained 186% increase in revenue generation from its own sources over the period of last 7 months only (July 2019-Jan 2020).Much of this revenue generation can be attributed to the income collected from swimming pool, hostel and also ground hall and membership charges. In Year 2018-2019 total income generation was around 9.5 million Rs, contrary to year 2019-2020 during which total income generation turned out to be 17.5 million Rs. She lauded the efforts of PSB’s team in actualizing this goal and emphasized “still there is a lot of potential and we can tap this by upgrading the sports complex.” Moreover, upon concluding the meeting, executive committee members expressed their concern over the elections of Pakistan Olympic association (POA), which they said, were unfair and non-transparent. “These types of practices are proving detrimental to the overall sports environment in the country”, Dr. Fehmida asserted. She expressed her resolve that she would make all efforts to bring a positive change in this sports environment.
