Mr Kuninori Matsuda, the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan along with Mr Ryo Minami, Director General, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, Japan called on the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Mr Nadeem Babar at the Petroleum Division. The meeting was also attended by Mr Asad Hayauddin, Secretary, Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division).
Mr Ryo Minami presented an overview of the Japanese Agency for Natural Resources and Energy and its areas of focus in Japan and around the world. Mr Minami also shared details of various training programs being undertaken by Japan in the energy sector for emerging energy and LNG markets. Mr Ryo Minami was happy to disclose that a training program specifically designed for Pakistan would soon be commenced. This training program is a result of a request made by Mr Omar Ayub Khan, Federal Minister for Energy during his recent visit to Japan. The visiting delegate also gave an overview of leading Japanese conglomerates like Mitsui and Mitsubishi in LNG markets around the world.
Mr Nadeem Babar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister thanked and appreciated the decision of the Japanese Government to initiate a special training program for Pakistan. He welcomed the decision, terming it vital for raising skill sets of human resource employed in Pakistan's energy market. The SAPM shed light on various aspects of Pakistani LNG market and the present Government's commitment to ease of doing business and its reform agenda. Mr Nadeem Babar said that Japanese experience in the LNG market is an important learning curve for Pakistan and that the country attaches great value to it. Pakistan would surely like to learn from this experience. The SAPM also drew the attention of Mr Ryo Minami towards the present Government's decision to auction blocks for new exploration in December 2019 and road shows conducted by the Ministry that led to Pakistan's re-entry into the exploration market. The exploration comes with a good policy, price offers and in the right zones/conditions.
Both sides agreed to step up cooperation in the energy sector and continue collaboration that would lead to mutually beneficial outcomes. Mr Nadeem Babar once again thanked Mr Ryo Minami for the Government of Japan's special traning program for Pakistan whereas Mr Ryo Minami hoped that such contacts would lead to strengthening of Pakistan Japan bilateral relations particularly in the field of energy.
