PR No. 90 STATEMENT REGARDING REFERRAL OF CASE TO THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE PAKISTAN BAR COUNCIL (PBC) AGAINST DR. BARRISTER MUHAMMAD FAROGH NASEEM AND APPOINTMENT OF LAW OFFICERS Islamabad: October 10, 2019

Some sections of the press carried news regarding referral of case to the Executive Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), against Dr. Muhammad Farogh Naseem, who has been accused of misconduct on the issue of non-suspension of his membership of the PBC, upon taking oath as the Federal Minister for Law and Justice, on 20 th August 2018. No order till date, has been received by the Law Minister. Matter arose when an opponent faction from PBC attempted to get him de-notified with a pure malafide intention. The Learned Attorney General has already decided the matter in favor of the Law Minister holding that he shall continue on the role of Membership of the PBC. Against the Order, the Learned Attorney General, the Hon’ble Supreme Court of Pakistan was also approached by the same opposing group, however their plea was dismissed in favor of Dr. Muhammad Farogh Naseem, by the Supreme Court. Despite the order of the Attorney General and Apex Court, a group of lawyers in PBC has been passing adverse resolutions against the Federal Minister which are without jurisdiction and in contempt of the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s Order. The illegal Resolutions passed by the PBC have been suspended by Attorney General. Federal Law Minister intends to initiate contempt proceedings against the Executive Committee of the PBC. As for the appointment and removal of the Law officers; it is a matter of routine. The Law Minister believes in sheer merit. Termination, replacement and appointment of Law Officers is only done in order to bring competent law officers.
