PR No. 194 PRIME MINISTER’S MEETING WITH THE PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA ON THE SIDELINES OF UNGA-74 Islamabad: September 26, 2019

Prime Minister Imran Khan met Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr. Mahathir Bin Mohamad on the sidelines of 74th Session of UN General Assembly in New York. Recalling Prime Minister Mahatir Muhammad’s visit to Pakistan in March 2019, Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed the desire to deepen bilateral ties through enhanced economic engagement and further strengthen cooperation in a range of areas including tourism, defence, people to people exchanges. It was agreed to intensify mutual collaboration in the fields of trade, electronics, engineering, IT, oil and gas, higher education and science & technology. It was decided to have a high level group follow up on enhanced cooperation in these areas. The two leaders also agreed to pool resources to strengthen the intellectual and scientific capacity, with such efforts especially focused on the youth. Earlier, the exchange of views included the Prime Minister apprising of the situation in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir since India’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August. It may be recalled that Prime Minister Mahathir had issued a statement supporting a just and durable solution of the Kashmir dispute through relevant UNSC resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. *-*-*-*
