PR No. 01 SAPM ON HEALTH DR. ZAFAR MIRZA CONGRATULATES NEWLY ELECTED PRESIDENT OF PAKISTAN NURSING COUNCIL – ASSURES ALL OUT SUPPORT TO UPLIFT THE NURSING PROFESSION Islamabad: August 1, 2019

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr. Zafar Mirza on Wednesday congratulated the newly elected President of Pakistan Nursing Council Ms. Afshan Nazly and Vice President Mr. Hassan Kasi. He expressed the hope that under the leadership of newly elected President nursing profession will flourish and unsolved problem will speedily be resolved. The year 2019 has been declared as year of Nursing and Midwifery reflecting strong national resolve to take this important sector forward, he said. He said the nursing profession was neglected in the last 70 years. Uplifting the nursing profession was in line with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan to transform the health sector, he said. He urged all those associated with the noble profession to work selflessly adding that the Government would provide them fullest support. Dr. Zafar Mirza pinned great hopes on Pakistan Nursing Council as face of nursing in Pakistan. He advised the Council to have deliberations on newly formed National Nursing Strategy and devise the ways to implement it. He directed a workshop of all Provincial Nursing Directors be held immediately in order to create consensus among provinces for utilizing of funding approved in PC-I. Dr Zafar Mirza ensured full support from the Federal Government to ensure 6(Cs) i.e. care, compassion, courage, communication, commitment and competence for the nursing sector as nurses work across all demographics and requirements of the public; adults, children, mental health and learning disability Dr. Zafar Mirza said the post of Nursing Advisor shall be created very soon in consultation with National Health Reforms Taskforce to fill the gap.
