PR No.139 SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO PM FOR NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICES DR. ZAFAR MIRZA VISITS POLYCLINIC HOSPITAL - ANNOUNCES COMMITTEE TO IMPLEMENT REFORMS ON FAST TRACK, IMPROVE QUALITY OF PATIENT CARE Islamabad, May 28, 2019

Special Assistant to PM for National Health Services Dr. Zafar Mirza during his visit to Federal Government Polyclinic Hospital in Islamabad constituted a committee to fast track implementation of reforms in the hospital so as to improve the quality of patient care. The committee will meet on weekly basis and ensure implementation of reforms in the hospital. The committee will also address the issue of Patient load in the hospital. Dr. Zafar Mirza was briefed on the challenges and development work being undertaken at the hospital by Executive Director Dr. Shahid Hanif. Dr. Zafar Mirza later visited the Emergency department and different wards of the hospital to review the facilities being provided to the patients. He spoke to patients and their attendants about the care being provided by the hospital. The Minister said the purpose of his visit was to improve the health facilities being provided to residents of Islamabad in line with vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan. Under directions of the Prime Minister reforms are currently being implemented in PIMS hospital. Likewise Polyclinic will be reformed also to better serve the people. Dr. Zafar Mirza shared that Prime Minister Imran Khan will soon announce major reforms in health. The Dr Zafar Mirza said doctors of Polyclinic are discharging their duties with hard work despite the fact that their working conditions are not ideal. The hospital was established in 1966 as an eight bedded facility whereas now it is 550 bedded hospital with the same building. There is a heavy load of patients with less space. We will strengthen Polyclinic and the network of dispensaries under the hospital so as to establish a strong referral system said the Minister. He assured that all issues of doctors would be resolved and asked the administration and doctors to work together in this regard.
