PTI has delivered on a major poll pledge, re-appoints Board of Directors of all public sector companies under Ministry of Petroleum. This was said by Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Federal Minister for Petroleum on Wednesday during presiding a high level meeting at Petroleum Division. The Federal Cabinet, yesterday, approved the appointment of the country’s public sector companies working under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division. The appointments were made after applications were first invited by the Petroleum Division and the process of interviews was completed recently. The nominations to the Board of Directors have been made by following a strict process of transparency and merit .Ghulam Sarwar Khan added that eminent names from the industry have been elevated to top positions within these organizations. In a first in the country’s history, it has been ensured that all federating units receive equal representation in the Board of Directors. In a major development, the incumbent Government has ensured that women, too, are represented on all the respective Boards with Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, Ex-Governor State Bank of Pakistan and a leading UN professional becoming the first woman in the country’s history to head the BOD of a major company, SSGCL. Dilawar Abbas Shah would lead SNGPL as Chairperson. He has over four decades of experience in the Oil and Gas sector. Qamar Sharif has been nominated as Chairperson OGDCL. He holds a PhD in Petroleum and has over 40 years of experience in E&P globally. He has also served in Shell International and Saudi Aramco. Another prominent appointment is Mr. Shamsuddin Sheikh who would be Chairperson Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation. He holds an MBA from the US in addition to an M.E in Industrial Engineering from the US too. He has over 28 years of experience at senior management positions at Engro. It has also been ensured that the nominees carry a blend of technical, management, legal and banking experience to reform these utilities, improve their standards and bring them at par with best global practices.
