A three-day capacity building workshop regarding CVE Media Product Development for the students of media studies, started here today. This workshop has been organized by Pakistan Peace Collective (PPC), a research & communication project of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MoI&B) which aims to provide refined professional media product development skills with a deeper understanding of the role of media in countering violent extremism. The students of Media Studies departments from 16 Universities of Pakistan are attending the training workshop. Mr. Arshad Khan, Managing Director Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) inaugurated the weeklong workshop titled “Students Training on CVE Media Product Development”. While addressing the participants he highlighted the importance of the training workshop and its application in the professional responsibilities of reporters. He further stated, “True understanding of religion would not let you do the wrong doings”. The quality of knowledge and Education he added can make one successful in the society.” Mr. Shabbir Anwar, CEO, PPC welcomed the participants on behalf of the Ministry. He mentioned that PPC focusses upon developing the official communication response in Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) and explained the significance of the training for the participants in covering issues relating to violent extremism as practitioners. Through this highly interactive and practical workshop, he said, seventeen students of media studies from a range of universities would not only get an opportunity to learn about the effectiveness of the techniques and strategies to make media products on the subject of Counter Violent Extremism but would also be able to share and reflect the same during their professional discourse. The training he added is particularly focusing on the importance of strategic communications, which includes script writing, production & practical exercises to develop CVE media products. Mr. Kamran Butt, Faculty National College of Arts (NCA), Mr. Zafar Imran an author, Mr. Mehdi Hassan, an independent writer & filmmaker and Mr. Faizan Gul delivered lectures to the participants regarding the production techniques which includes, scripting, planning, casting, camera work and editing. They also apprised the participants on means to help develop the skills for documentary production. The participants attending the training workshop belong to the media studies departments of various universities from all over the Pakistan, including Quetta, Gilgit-Baltistan, Swat, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Lahore, Peshawar and Islamabad. ***** ?
