PR No. 289 Islamabad

President Mamnoon Hussain has said that if we want to come out of the quagmire of our problems and follow the path of development and stability then we will have to follow the Charter of Madina in its true spirit as it is the first and fundamental document on the modern concept of state.

President Mamnoon Hussain said this while addressing the National Seminar on “Reconstruction of Pakistani Society in the light of Charter of Madina” at International Islamic University here in Islamabad on Friday.  Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousuf, Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, President and Rector IIUI were also present.

The President greatly appreciated the Fatwa issued by the Ulemas of all schools of thoughts condemning terrorism and extremism. He further said that it is a momentous occasion in the history of Pakistan when our scholars have joined hands against this menace. He applauded the extraordinary efforts of ulemas in achieving this milestone.

The President expressed his satisfaction that after the experiences and events of the last century we are deliberating on reconstructing the society in the light of sacred document of Charter of Madina. He also stated that being Muslims we aspire for peace in the whole world and desire progress, prosperity and welfare for the entire humanity. The President also added that by following this belief Pakistan has always played an active role for global peace and will continue to do so in future also.

The President also emphasized that a counter narrative needs to be built to negate the narratives of extremism, hate and terrorism to promote peace, harmony and respect of others and impress upon contemporary world that the ideas they harbour about Pakistan and Muslim Ummah in this regard have nothing to do with reality. Therefore, such seminars have great significance and importance in this respect.

The President also said that the Charter of Madina was not created to protect communal interests, nor it related to Muslims only but it was a broad based agreement which aimed at the welfare and protection of whole humanity. This treaty not only had the trust and confidence of followers of Islam but also of non-Muslim. The President further stated that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) always granted due rights to the rightful, gave relief to the oppressed and always treated the marginalized generously irrespective of their religion, caste, color or creed. He also said that the founding fathers of our country also dreamt for such a society in which all citizens have equal rights. He further stressed that the secret to the success and progress of Pakistan is hidden in the path determined by our ancestors. Adding that now it is the responsibility of our Ulemas and intellectuals to ponder upon this message of humanity and become the true savior of the world.
