PR No.96 Cooperation at Intra Governmental Level to Materialize our Aspirations of a Prosperous Pakistan is the Need of the Hour Islamabad: February 15, 2019

"Cooperation at intra governmental level is the only way forward to achieve the target of exponential growth in exports" observed the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi visiting Karachi Port Trust and Pakistan National Shipping Corporation along with Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed in Karachi. "Development of Pakistan's ports as gateways to the region requires extraordinary measures, including freight corridors for efficient flow of goods from both within the country and landlocked neighboring countries" he said. For the said objective, the railways minister visited the sites for prospective railway lines connecting two ports, Port Qasim and Karachi Port Trust and supply of goods from other parts of the country. The railways minister was briefed about the routes, the congestion due to container movement within the city and the possibilities arising out of the very opportunity for diversification of the railway operation. "The significance of the cooperation can be understood by the fact that it'll not only strengthen operations at the ports, but will also increase revenue of railways. It will strengthen industrial as well as agricultural supply chain, eradicate obstacles in freight movement and carry two way benefits for the Railways and Shipping sectors" the minister said. For this, both the ministers resolved to formulate four member committees in both ministries to work out the modalities of the existing plans. "I have a firm resolve that during our tenure in office, such measures will be taken that'll help Pakistan utilize its more that one thousand kilometers of coastline and will make Pakistan a gateway for the West and Middle East to Central, South and South East Asia" he said.
