Cabinet Committee for Disposal of Legislative Cases (CCLC) has today on 24th May, 2017 approved a Bill to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, (Act No.V of 1898) for its introduction in the Parliament.

          The Bill, approved earlier by the law Reforms Committee, was submitted to CCLC by Ministry of Interior and seek to amend CrPC by inserting a new Section 54-A. The proposed new section aims to give rights to a person to be informed in writing of the grounds of his arrest by the Police Officer on duty; to inform his family on his whereabouts, and to consult a legal practitioner of his choice.

          Besides the above, the CCLC which is chaired by Mr. Zahid Hamid, Minister for Law & Justice approved summaries relating to amendments in the Federal Employees Benevolent Fund and Group Insurance Act, 1969 (Act-II of 1969) submitted by Establishment Division, Notification to Amendment Schedule-I to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan Act, 1997 (XLII of 1997) and repeal of House Building Finance Corporation Act, 1952 (XVIII of 1952) submitted by Finance Division, Pakistan Assaying and Hallmarking Council Act submitted by Industries & Production Division, Amendment in the Evacuee Trust Properties (Management and Disposal) Act, 1975 (XIII of 1975) submitted by Religious Affairs & Inter-Faith Harmony Division, and Amendment in the Rules of Business, 1973 submitted by Cabinet Division.
