PR No. 258 THE SECOND MEETING OF CLIMATE CHANGE CONSULTATIVE GROUP THINK TANK HELD AT MINISTRY OF CLIMATE CHANGE. Islamabad

The second meeting of Climate Change Consultative Group Think Tank held at Ministry of Climate Change. The members of meetings discussed role of this think tank and how it can support and suggest Ministry of Climate Change in various issues.

Senator Aisha Raza suggested appointing focal persons in each sectorial ministry for better coordination between Ministry of Climate Change and other ministries having relevance with climate change. She also highlighted that we need to develop infrastructure for best utilization of $40 billions if Pakistan succeeds to get them from Green Climate Fund.

Ms. Mussarat Ahmed Zeb MNA also suggested that all provinces should develop policies through which shopkeepers will charge customers with nominal amount for plastic bags. She also highlighted some dangers pertaining to Glaciers outbursts in Pakistan

Dr. Dushka Sayed also highlighted that we need to take practical steps to deal with climate change issues. The participants were also given presentation on Pakistan Climate Change Act, efforts to conserve forestry and wildlife sector in Pakistan, Intended Nationally Determined Contributions and Climate Change Finance Strengthening Governance and System.

The participants appreciated the efforts of Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid and Ministry of Climate Change for approval of Climate Change Act.

The think-tank, called Consultative Group on Climate Change, was formed on the directives of the Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Mushahidullah Khan in 2015.The think-tank comprises members of national and provincial assemblies, senators, renowned scientists, researchers, climatologists, glaciologists, weather scientists, agriculturists and academicians from government and non-governmental sectors.

Among thirty members includes Dr .Aisha  Raza Farooq Senator, Ms Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister for information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, Ms. Romina Khursheed MNA, Syed Uzma Qadir (MPA), Ms. Raheela Durrani Speaker Balochistan Assembly, Dr. Ishfaq Ahmed khan Chairman Board of Governor, National Centre for Physics, Quaid-i-Azam University, Raja Muhammad Amin Former Secretary Senate Secretariat , Mr. Shahid Kamal Former Ambassador, Dr. Ghulam Rasool  Ex. Director General Metrological Department, Dr. Dushka Sayed Former Professor of History at Quaid –i-Azam University, Dr. Arshad M. Khan  Former Executive Director  Global Change Impact Study Centre, Dr. Muhammad  Akram Former Chairman Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources, Mr. Mehmood Akhtar Cheema Country Director IUCN, Mr. Absar Alam, Mr Tallat Hussain etc.
