PR. No. 110. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Pakistan offers attractive opportunities for establishment of new oil marketing in view of its growing market for petroleum products. He said that to attract investment the import of fuel oil has already been deregulated and import of high speed diesel has also been outsourced to oil marketing companies to attract investment in oil sector. The Prime Minister said that the government will soon bring about further reforms in the downstream oil sector with a thrust on privatization, liberalization and complete deregulation of oil industry. The Prime Minister made these observations while talking to Mr. Martin McCarthy, the CEO Total-Parco Pakistan Ltd, who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House this afternoon. The Prime Minister appreciated the efforts of Total-Parco in making the oil marketing business in Pakistan and said that we expect it to expand its business especially in rural areas of the country. Mr. McCarthy informed the Prime Minister that Total-Parco has so far invested over $ 22 million in the oil marketing business in Pakistan. He said we will continue our investment programme in Pakistan as Total-Parco has an excellent experience of working in Pakistan which we see as a very good market. DSG/AR. PR. No. 111. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has given a grant of Rs. 200 million (Rs.20 crore) under the recently started Peoples’ Works Programme for supply of Sui gas to Badomali and Narowal. The Prime Minister has also directed that immediate steps should be taken for supply of Sui gas to Badomali and Narowal which is a longstanding demand of the people belonging to the areas. DSG/AR. PR. No. 112. Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with his British counterpart in Paris. The two foreign Ministers are in Paris to attend the International Conference in Support of Afghanistan. During the meeting both leaders discussed bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest. Foreign Minister Qureshi and Foreign Minister David Miliband have kept close contact with each other since the return of democratic government to Pakistan. David Miliband was one of the first foreign ministers to visit Pakistan after Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi took over as Foreign Minister. Foreign Minister Qureshi said Pakistan attached great importance to its long standing cordial relations with UK, which represent shared values and commonality of perceptions on many regional and global issues. The presence of a large Pakistani Diaspora in Britain further cements this relationship. Foreign Minister Miliband appreciated Pakistan’s role in the war against terrorism and expressed support for Pakistan’s multi-pronged strategy to fight extremism and terrorism in tribal areas. The two Foreign Ministers also discussed cooperation between Pakistan and Britain in international organizations. F.O/AR. PR. No. 113. The Prime Minister of Pakistan has been pleased to accept the resignation of Mr. Tariq Ikram, Chief Executive, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Karachi with effect from 31.05.2008, says a notification issued by Ministry of Commerce on 12.6.2008.
