PR. No. 74. Ministry of Local Government & Rural Development will organize a 5-day Regional/International Workshop on “Participatory Techniques for Planning and Management of Rural Development Projects” with the collaboration of Akhtar Hameed Khan National Centre for Rural Development and Municipal Administration and CIRDAP and Common Wealth Association in Islamabad from June 10-14, 2008. Federal Minister for Local Government & Rural Development, Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour will inaugurate the Regional Workshop on June 10, 2008 and address its inaugural session. Participants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Islamic Republic of Iran, LAOPDR,, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam besides local participants and representatives from CIRDAP will attend the international workshop. The main objective of international workshop is to develop a sound understanding of the concept and methodologies used in participatory planning and management of rural development projects, acquire practical skills in using participatory techniques in the process of planning and management of rural development programmes/projects and use the techniques in their current work and future projects planning exercise. PR. No. 75. Ministry of Population Welfare with the collaboration of UNFPA is devising a strategy to launch a crash programme in contraceptive surgery for Registered Medical Practioners (RMPs) in different cities in the next two months. In the first phase of the said Crash Programmes, a badge of ten Registered Medical Practioners in different cities would be imparted surgical training of seven days in the major Districts Hospitals of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Dera Ismail Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan. Under the second phase the scope of said surgical training would be extended to further cities of the country. The purpose and objective of this training programme is to involve the local (RMPs) of these cities so that they may play effective role in conveying the message of smaller family among the masses in practical manner. The said training programme will be monitored and evaluated jointly by the senior doctors of technical and clinical wings of the Ministry of Population, Provincial departments of population and the representatives of UNFPA. PR. No. 76. Senator Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi has left here today for Ottawa (Canada) to attend the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s (CPA) 20th Annual Parliamentary Seminar being organized there from June 8 – 14, 2008. He was nominated by the Senate of Pakistan. The Seminar would be attended by delegates from the member countries. It is expected that inter-Parliamentary linkages among the member states would be strengthened further as a result of the Seminar. The Seminar, during it deliberations, would discuss issues like ‘The Commonwealth and the Role of CPA’, ‘Parliamentary Ethics, Transparency and Accountability’ and ‘Parliamentary Committees and the Committee System’ in addition to ‘The Relationship between Parliaments and the People’. The Seminar would provide a very useful opportunity to Parliamentarians from the member states to share their experiences and to learn from one another. QAM/AR.
