Islamabad, July 5, 2008.

A meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Senate Functional Committee on Government Assurances observed that the government departments must shed the bureaucratic inertia to deliver and to come up to the expectations of the people. The meeting was held at the Parliament House today under the Chairmanship of Senator Ch. Muhammad Anwar Bhinder to consider the development status of Sector I-16 Islamabad with special reference to provision of electricity, gas and water in addition to construction of access roads.

The Sub-Committee was informed that the work is in progress on the 1.75 km Service Road (North) and it would be completed within one month’s time whereas possession would be given to contractor for carrying out the roads construction work on Service Road (South) in a month’s time as the outstanding issues have been resolved with the affectees. The Bulldozer would be seen operating within a fortnight, CDA official assured the Committee.

The Sub-Committee took serious exception to the CDA’s inability to handover possession for construction of the grid station to IESCO (which has already issued 6 reminders to the CDA) and directed the authority to do the needful positively by the next Tuesday, otherwise action would be initiated against those found responsible.

The Sub-Committee was also critical of the inordinate delay in completion of the water supply scheme and observed that no construction work could be undertaken without uninterrupted supply of water. The Sub-Committee directed that work may be started immediately in trouble free areas and intervention of IG, Deputy Commissioner and the Ministry of Interior may be sought for police cover to carry out the work in troubled areas.
