PR.No.21. Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Speaker and Faisal Karim Kundi, Deputy Speaker National Assembly of Pakistan have expressed their heartfelt condolence over the sad demise of Nirmala Deshpande, Member of Rajya Sabah and President of India-Pakistan Parliamentarian Forum. In their separate condolence messages, the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker said that Nirmala Deshpande was a seasoned parliamentarian and a legislator of high repute. The message said that Nirmala Deshpande stood for close interaction between Parliaments of the two countries and her contribution for better relationship between India and Pakistan was tremendous. The message said that she was the torchbearer of peace and friendship between countries of the region. The Speaker and Deputy Speaker and that Nirmala Deshpande has left indelible marks on the landscape of Indian Parliament and legislation, “Her death is an irreparable loss to India as well as Pakistan”, the massage said. The Speaker and Deputy Speaker said the Nirmala Deshpande has created a vacuum that is difficult to be filled. “She will be remembered in the annals of history for a long time to come” the message said. The Speaker and Deputy Speaker said that they were grieved over her death and also expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. MT/AR.
PR.No.22. Islamabad May 04, 2008. Federal Minister for SAFRON, Najmuddin Khan has said that the present government is committed to provide justice to the people of FATA at their door steps and in this connection necessary amendments would be brought in FCR in consultation with the people of these area, as this vision has been given by our great leader, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto who wanted to bring these people at par with other developed areas. He said these while talking with media men. He further explained that judiciary would be separated from executive to ensure speedy justice for the people of FATA. Removal of deprivation and socio-economic development is the top priority of the present government to mitigate suffering of the people, the Minister mentioned. The Minister claimed that law & order situation is getting better in FATA after coming into power the present because we believe that political dialogue and the Jirga is the solution of the problems, not the operation. The present government taking concrete steps to develop infrastructure and communication system in these areas and to bring them in mainstream of life. Zub/AR.
PR.No.23. The Gulf State of Qatar would hire 30,000 skilled and semi-skilled workers from Pakistan this year. In this regard, both sides sign an additional protocol pertaining to the existing labour agreement, which was inked between the two countries in 1987. A labour agreement signed in 1987 was to regulate export of manpower to the State of Qatar. The agreement was signed by Federal Minister for Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistani Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah and visiting Qatar Minister for Labour and Social Affairs Dr. Sultan-bin-Hassan Al Dhabit Al Dousari. This agreement will provide an opportunity for more people to be accommodated in Qatar and also in rehabilitating those Pakistani whose contracts expired subsequently. It will also help those workers who after expiry of their contract are otherwise, will be able to get their full benefits in terms of social security, ages or any other emoluments being their legal dues. Later, talking to media, the Minister for Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistani said that around 75000 Pakistanis are working in Qatar so far. Under this agreement, he said that we would send 30,000 workers to Qatar in 2008. The Federal Minister said that I would soon visit to Qatar to discuss matters relating to export of IT experts, Doctors and Engineers. He said Qatar is demanding skill manpower but we are facing a shortage of trained workers due to discontinuation in policies during last many years. He further explained that Qatar Government would be investing more than US $2 million in Pakistan. SG/AR.
